Vigor 2865ax versus Vigor AP906 was created by Ewan
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has successfully set up a mesh network using a Vigor 2865ax router and Vigor AP906 access point.
I recently tried the Vigor AP905 with no success but it is a new product so appears not quite compatible yet.
The AP906 has been around for a few years so I am assuming will work ok.
Thanks in advance.

According to Draytek it is
https://www.draytek.co.uk/information/our-technology/mesh-wireless-compatibility-list
However, be aware that the 906 appears to be on a road to nowhere as regards future compatibility (I have 3 of them....)

Thank you Piste,
So you have 3 in your mesh network?
Any issues or do they work as expected?
I'm keen to try the AP 906 and prob should have to begin with, but the AP 905 was newer and I did ask if it was compatible but it wasn't.
Kind regards,

Hi Ewan,
Yes I have 3, with the 2927ax as the root. I started with 2 wired and 1 wireless, now have all 3 wired. The only issue I can recall is Config Sync perhaps not working as expected - I seem to remember that not all settings propagated as they should have, but manual checking sorted that out. (I do have 4 SSID's and several VLANs). Whether or not the Mesh aspect is worth having is moot, but since it's there I use it....

Thank you very much Piste.
Most useful information.
At the moment I have older Netgear APs but would like to upgrade them to Wifi 6 and thought that mesh would be the way to go now I have the 2685ax router.
I would agree that mesh versus AP possibly doesn't have much in it, but like you, if the feature is there then I would like to try it out.
Can always go back to AP mode if of no real benefit.
Thanks again,
Ewan...

Regardless of what you've been told I think you'll find the AP905 is completely compatible with the 2865ax as the compatibility chart linked above just hasn't been updated yet. The AP805/AP962/AP1062 are all shown and are all now running the same firmware as the AP905...
The AP906 is kind of in no-man's land - it'll never get DrayOS 5 as it essentially belongs to the older line...but with with ax capability.
The chart halfway down this page has been updated: -

And the AP905 is so much cheaper than the 906 - so....
