Vigor 2862 & 2860 connect to Hyperoptic, but no internet & no ping from router was created by arnitect
Has anyone got a 2862 or 2860 to work with Hyperoptic?
My 2862 worked for many years with Virgin Media Hub (modem mode) plugged into WAN2.
I recently had Hyperoptic installed with their ONT on the wall (Innbox G23 NT GPON) and their Router (Zyxel EX3301-T0) and this connects effortlessly and works great.
When I connect Hyperoptic's ONT ethernet to my Draytek 2862 WAN2, I get an IP, I see the gateway IP, DNS servers etc, all green; however, there is no internet for clients and Diagnostics Ping from the router fails to 8.8.8.8 and the gateway.
2862 firmware is 3.9.9.12_BT.
I plug VM modem back in, it also receives an IP, gateway IP DNS servers and the internet works instantly.
I tried a friend's 2860 with factory defaults and it fails the same as my 2862
I have tried the following without success:
- cloning the MAC
- reducing the MTU incrementally down to 1400
- no firewall filters
- no other WANs enabled
- no load balancing
- no PPPoE, PPTP/L2TP settings
- I have added IPv6 but no difference
- Hardware Acceleration disabled / enabled
- WAN Connection Detection: tried all 4 modes
- tried VLAN Tag insertion, with Customer, Service, both, neither
- In IP Network Settings, selecting ‘Specify an IP address’ doesn’t work, but ‘Obtain an IP address automatically’ at least gets the connection up (but no Internet for clients, nor ping). The addresses and mask are as the automatic settings, as the Zyxel's reported settings.
- Draytek remoted in to my router and could not see any settings that would prevent internet
- Hyperoptic said they could see my router (confirmed my router's MAC), said their only requirement is that the router's WAN port is compatible with /31 mask

Does it work with Hyperoptic router?
If it does clone the mac address.

Yes - it works with Hyperoptic router and cloning MAC didn't help.
I have just taken the 2860 router to a local friend's place who is also on Hyperoptic, and without adjusting the router settings at all, the 2860 works fine with their ONT and connects to the internet. Interestingly, as with my place, on the Draytek's 'IP Network Settings', selecting ‘Specify an IP address’ does not work, but ‘Obtain an IP address automatically’ does. My friend typically uses a 2866 as his router.
Either Draytek is not compatible with our specific IP subnet, or Hyperoptic are locking the service to their router, beyond checking just the MAC address.

Sounds a bit like you're connected but not logged in to the Hyperoptic end.
Do Hyperoptic require a service vLAN to be configured - and perhaps you haven't done so ?
Could you not try the friends working 2866 on your connection?
That said, if you've gone for a 500Mbps or above service then neither 2860 or 2862 is capable of passing traffic at those speeds anyway and it might be time for an upgrade (even the 2862 is 9 years old now).
Failing that maybe you could add some screenshots to show what you've got configured ?

Hyperoptic say no vLAN required
Using the Hyperoptic router between their ONT and the Draytek 2860 (I didn't note the results of 2862), I get ~900Mbps Down / ~450Mbps Up, with HW acceleration enabled. But yes, I plan to upgrade the router eventually.
Friend's subnet mask is /24; mine is /25, which is suspicious.
ChatGPT continues to conclude that the gateway is not actually on the same L2 segment:
routed point-to-point WAN,
often /31,
with a separately routed public block
Hyperoptic have escalated the issue.
