2865 - VDSL2 drops under high load was created by ctluk
Hi,

I have got the telephone company looking at this as well but thought I'd throw it out to the community to see if you have any insight.  Vigor 2865 (fw 4.5.2.1_BT) and a newish VDSL2 line that I've just put into production, the router has 2 WAN links (both VDSL2), WAN 2 is via a Vigor 167 and WAN 1 connected to the DSL port on the router, WAN 1 is the problem child, stats look good, SNR is around 11Db, it's syncing at the max rate for the line. The only really odd thing is UAS number is 1145213 (13+ days) which considering the router was rebooted a couple of days ago seems odd - probably a red herring though.  The WAN1 is fine during normal use but when I start the cloud backups in the evening the line disconnects, it's only ever down for a few seconds, just enough to trigger the notification email I have setup.  It might disconnect half a dozen times in a 10 minute period then it calms down again.  Once the traffic dies down again the line becomes "stable" again.  The telephone company have done some initial tests and they sent me a screenshot of the BTWS RAG status and that all looks good, bit of a head scratcher.

Any thoughts, I am thinking maybe tweaking the SNR a bit to see if that helps?

Cheers
Rob

How difficult would it be to swap WAN 1 & WAN 2 so the troublesome line is on the Vigor 167?

It would be interesting to see if the problem moves with the copper line?

Ideally you would keep the functions (so configuration) of each WAN connection the same (give or take any credentials needed for each line) so it's just the telco side that is swapped.

Hi Mark

Thanks for the reply, I meant to update this. But yes your thought process would have been spot on, the issue was the telco issued the wrong username/password. Not sure how it ever worked at all but changing to the correct username/password resolved he issue.

Thanks!

Now that's a bit subtle!

BT often doesn't need the correct credentials however there are "generic" ones you can enter

Username: bthomehub@btbroadband.com
Password: bt

If you had something incorrect for your connection but it was a BT service you might find it works until it feels the need to re-authenticate the registration. That fails but after a while the connection reestablishes anyway.

It sounds like something like that. Only a sustained transfer revealing the problem.

For BT business green-light@service.btclick.com and zer0touch also works. In this case it was an OpenReach line but managed by 3rd party so had a PPPoE username/password.

Yes, not one I've seen before, every day is a school day!
