Method / Duration of Firmware Upgrades was created by cartmane
Over the last couple of years I've started to see firmware upgrades take longer and longer on my routers (currently a 2866ax, previously a 2860Vac) with invariably the web GUI timing out after 10+ minutes and me having to hope that things have completed & reconnect / reboot.  Sometimes it's worked, other times (such as when I tried to move my 2866 to FW 4.5.0) it hasn't completed and twice now I've been left having to recover using TFTP.

Do others have these same issues?
What approximate timings do you all see when doing upgrades?
Does anyone go straight down the TFTP upgrade route as it seems more robust than doing it via the web method?

I've just upgraded my 2927ax from 4.4.6.2 to 4.5.1 via the GUI. Took less than 20 seconds before ready to re-boot, which then took about twice as long.

Which then makes me really worried why I'm regularly getting timeouts :(

[EDIT}
I took the plunge & upgraded via the web again - 12 mins 25 seconds despite the FW file only being 29MB & me being plugged in directly to one of the LAN ports.  My config isn't especially large, just 25KB according to the backup, the only slightly out of the ordinary setting that I have is that the GUI is running on a non-standard port.  Is anyone else seeing things like this as it's the same sort of experience as I used to have on my 2860 which I assumed was down to it starting to struggle?

Hi, also running 2866ax currently. I always download and unzip the relevant new firmware from the Draytek UK site and then use the GUI interface to upgrade it. I'm also running on a non-standard https port to access the GUI and it doesn't usually take more than 30 seconds or so before getting the successful and ready to reboot page. I guess that's not much help really, sorry!

The last few versions for the 3910 have been problematic.

1) Browser timing out.
2) The firmware not asking for a reboot just sitting there.
3) Firmware corrupted
4) Router constantly looping during reboot on 4.4.5
5) Having to use the firmware utility to downgrade back to 4.4.3.6

I had to reset to defaults via the reset button after the last upgrade 4.4.5.1
