I'm wondering if it's possible to have different AP's use different DHCP ranges (i.e. each AP gives out a different IP range) but in a mesh environment where users roam between APs so their IP address will change as they go between APs.

Each of my 4 AP906 has 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz using the same SSID (MySSID).  The VLAN for each is currently set to 0 (i.e. no VLAN).
Each AP has DHCP disbled so the DHCP is provided by the router (3912s).
The 3912s has a lot (100+) of fixed IP addresses (i.e. uses the Bind Mac address to IP).  This is used for known devices which I want to have a fixed address e.g. Sonos devices, car charger, each of the AP906 devices etc.

I'd like (for no really valid reason...) to have AP-root give out IP addresses in the range 10.1.0.x, AP-1 uses 10.1.1.x, AP-2 uses 10.1.2.x, AP-3 uses 10.1.3.x. The router will use addresses 10.1.7.x.

I am thinking of putting a different VLAN id on each AP, so the VLAN id (for both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz) on AP-root would be 1010, AP-1 would be 1011, AP-2 would be 1012, AP-3 would be 1013, router would be 1017.  I'm not sure if it's possible to have a different VLAN id set on each AP or if AP-root would overwrite the value set on the other APs.
The subnet mask would be 255.255.248.0.
The bind list would only be on the router.
Each AP would have have the DHCP Server option set to Relay Agent with the router's IP address.
The router (in the LAN / VLAN section) would have VLANs configured for each VLAN tag, with the DHCP server set to give out IP addresses in the requisite range; the LAN / General Setup page would allow each of the LAN's set to be able to access each other.

AP-root is plugged into my PQ2200xb and uses PoE; the PQ2200xb is connected to the 3912s router using a 10Gb SFP cable so I don't know what boxes I'd check on the LAN / VLAN matrix page which refers to ports.  Unfortunately this forum software won't allow me to post an image of my proposed starting point.

Has anyone tried doing anything like this?  Anyone have any thoughts on it?

Many thanks
